The Riyadh Municipality was developing the open tunnel with two underpasses. We were asked to develop a decorative cladding for the walls of the 1.6 m long open tunnel. As a stand-alone object in the road, we decided on a neutral design theme. We developed the design interpreting traditional Saudi Arabian patterns in a whimsical manner. Due to the length, we applied different colour tones and hues to avoid it becoming monotonous. We also played with light and shadow effects by extruding triangular shapes in some areas, while others remained plain.
