The realignment of the Salman Al Farsi Road, intersecting with the King Abdullah Road, created two open triangular parcels of land. The ADA requested us to develop these two triangles into a public park. We developed the design to maintain views into the space, intensifying the visual appearance of the park from the surrounding area. Artificial lawn was used as the material basis for the design and provided maximum visual greenery with minimal water usage. The maidan or plaza was designed to be the primary user space, furthest from traffic. It was lowered, creating a natural barrier from traffic areas, whilst not obstructing views into the area. The road to the north of Salman Al Farsi was pedestrianized, so that restaurants and outdoor seating areas could be developed alongside the open space.
