Abu Makrouq, (meaning eye of a needle), is with its natural rock formation a heritage asset. The Mountain Park was constructed between 1975 and 1980 but most of the green space and water structures were apparently removed around 2015. Our proposed theme follows the impression of contour lines around the rock, emphasizing the landmark itself as a central point. We allowed access from all around the site, including the public transport network. The landscape design was developed following a balance between planting terraces, green open spaces and ground cover areas. With regards to the architecture of the eateries, we concentrated on conceptual space requirements and functionality and how this would best be located within the landscape design itself. An elevated walkway is provided and seating terraces are integrated into the architecture, offering wider views over the park.
