Daknah Square is a plaza that links the plazas around the General and Criminal Court buildings, south of Al Madinah Al Munawwarah Rd, to the axis in the North, where Qasr Al Hokum is situated. Historically the Daknah Gate was one of the entrances inside the town wall. The refurbished adobe tower still exists here today. The Arriyadh Development Authority asked us to create a pedestrian link here, avoiding pedestrian bridges or narrow subways. We developed the pedestrian link by creating an open plaza or square at a lower level below the road. The areas in the road islands were terraced and opened up. The axis to the north ramped down to the plaza. Steps and a ramp linked the Criminal Court Plaza to the lower Daknah Square. The stretch of road over the plaza was kept to the minimum, avoiding construction cost of the bridge structure.
