Arriyadh - KSA

PRINCIPAL / PROJECT MANAGER | Eduard Gevers

In 1983, the newly established King Khalid International Airport adopted the Riyadh Airport. Consequently, the Riyadh Airport became the Royal Saudi Air Force base which is currently centralised in the centre of Riyadh. The Arriyadh Development Authority (“ADA”) was responsible for the development of the interchange inside the old Riyadh Airport base following an infrastructure enhancement to the city. The interchange (Maidan Amir Sattam) links the city from a north to south and east to west direction around the airport, consisting of several road tunnels below the runways and a road interchange. The landscape theme was designed around the surrounding aerodrome. The landscape was created with earthwork formations and a large expanse of artificial lawn with a distinct graphic pattern. A large aeroplane sculpture using security fence was integrated as a decorative landscape design element.
