The ADA had to develop the interchange of Salahadeen with Makkah Al Mukarramah Road. We were asked to develop a decorative cladding for the underpass walls and the plaza area over the underpass deck. We based our design on traditional Saudi Arabian patterns to develop a characteristic cladding of the underpass walls. In line with this identity, we designed the plaza deck above. Planters were required on top of the deck to provide required planting soil depth to plant trees. Trees were to form a densely shaded canopy for the future BRT (bus stop) located here. The planters, together with triangular seats, litter bins and paving patterns were used to create the design identity.
