Souq Azzal was the traditional commercial quarter or market within the of the old city walls. Today it is still used for selling mainly traditional Saudi merchandise. Arriyadh Development Authority were involved in upgrading the area. Our design therefore used traditional cultural patterns for the paving and plazas. The primary walkways were paved with such patterns, while secondary walkways were kept plain. The sides of walkway patterns allowed display and stacking of merchandise belonging to the individual stalls.
